A Message From Our President
On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Homewood-Flossmoor Area, I encourage each of you in these important times to fight even harder for our causes, including social justice, civil rights, criminal justice reform, voting rights, and increased access to the ballot box. We can do something about the system, the deeply flawed, unjust, and racist system under which we live. We have to act!! We have a moral and ethical obligation to listen to what the people need, to educate ourselves, to pay attention to our state and national League’s issues briefings, to roll up our sleeves and do what is necessary and just. When the dust settles, and decades have gone by, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will ask what you did during this most recent Civil Rights movement in our nation. What will your answer entail? I surmise that the League Members will be able to say, “Here is how I fought for justice and a better future for you.”
I encourage each of you to read the statement that the League of Women Voters U.S. issued regarding the Murder of George Floyd at the hands of law enforcement.

I want to acknowledge the state legislators, mayors, trustees, aldermen and other elected officials who are able to effect change. We are counting on you.
Thank you to our supporters and donors. We could not do the work we do without your participation, support, and resources. We truly appreciate you.
Barbara A. Hayes, President
